THE SOUNDSCAPE OF CARTER PLAYGROUND

For our Creative Placemaking class, we were tasked with studying Carter Playground. A privately managed public park. Living right next to it, I had the privilege to study it deeply and ended up deciding to focus on the soundscape. In this project, I did research as a user, listener, and architect. The creation of a QR code was the most important because I wanted to make information about this site public to the people, so creating a Linktree was the way to go. I made videos with recordings of how the soundscape is now and its transformation. The intention of this project is to get people to listen to the history of where they are and practice their awareness skills. Hopefully, by engaging in this type of activity, there can be a great improvement to our public spaces.
Soundscape Videos
The following videos are about the state of the park today, how it sounds and what people say it sounded like before. Listening to oral histories is part of understanding the soundscape of a place, so the linktree includes a video about the history of Carter Playground, also known as Columbus Park.
