location | Allston, MA

date | March 2022

movie | Hug the Tree: Roots Project

interview | Ringer Park Radio

type | Immersive Art Installation

Through mere chance, I got the opportunity to participate in an evening of live music and art. I found out about “Hug the Tree” when I stumbled upon their call for artists on the street. I applied and created a walkable diorama made up of four main elements. The intention of this piece is to invite the observer into a safe space made up of collaged paper and twigs, trying to imitate the feeling of being under a tree’s shelter with a mix of childhood-like tree house wonder. The top piece is a large map connected by twigs and tensile strength with steel galvanized cables. The side panels are a collection of sticks from city parks and images from the organization’s logo of the event “Roots Project”. One of the most popular elements of the design was the hanging collages at the back of the installation. These included images and artwork of the performers. It was a blessing to be able to see the positive reaction these musicians had to the work.
