PARK & REC
location | South Boston
date | Fall 2018
class | Site, Space, Program
The interesting geometry of this location is the result of being placed near a metro station, railway crossing, highway underpass, and busy street intersection. There is a sloped underground entrance placed in between the site and the neighboring dog park. The public realm is expanded by stretching this ramp and connecting it to the recreational center. The opportunities for urban landscaping were explored by designing a butterfly garden, community gathering spaces, and an accessible connection to nature within the city. The program of this project combines private gym users with the public realm. Two separate volumes can be read from the street, although they are linked underground by the back of house and service tunnels.
